    Telit and Google Announced First IoT Big Data Competition 

    TelitDecember 1, 2014 | The wireless machine-to-machine technology provider, Telit, will hold an Internet of Things Big Data Challenge together with Google. This is set to be the first competition of its kind, with the hopes of encouraging IoT innovation as the sector continues to grow. As part of the competition, Internet and mobile developers will be asked to submit innovative applications based on information taken from Google’s and Telit’s clouds. Details regarding the date, location and application to the competition have yet to be released. Telit was founded in 1986 in Italy and today is run by Israeli CEO Oozi Cats.

    Perion Extends Agreement With Bing.com For Additional Three Years 

    perionAugust 3, 2014 | Perion announced on August 1, 2014 (Friday) that it will extend its existing partnership with Bing for an additional three years. The agreement will extend from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2017. The agreement also includes desktop and tablet distribution with limited exclusivity to the United States as well as mobile distribution. “We are very excited to renew with Microsoft for another 3 years. We are committed to providing app developers with great solutions and working with Microsoft and Bing.com is an important part of that solution,” commented Ms. Danielle Ullner, Perion VP of Search Partnerships. In addition to companies like Bing and Google, Perion has search distribution partnerships with Ask.com and Yahoo. Founded in 2000, Perion is a global consumer software company based in Redmond, Washington and Tel Aviv, Israel.

    Google Ventures Sets Up European Branch Set To Serve Israel As Well 

    Google_Ventures_logoJuly 13, 2014 | Google Ventures investment fund announced that it will open a branch in Europe that will have $100 million to invest in startups and ventures in the continent. Although Google did not explicitly mention Israel as within the scope of the venture fund, sources reported to “Globes” that Google will use the fund to invest in Israeli startups and companies as well. Google Ventures was launched in 2009 and currently works with over 250 companies in the United States. To date, the company has invested in startups like Uber, Nest, which was acquired by Google, Parse, which was acquired by Facebook, and the Secret social network among others.

    Schmidt To Israeli CEOs: “Exploit Talent Here,” In Israel 

    Google - News Flash - IsraelJune 19, 2014 | During a recent visit to Israel, but not in his capacity as Google CEO, Eric Schmidt had some words of wisdom for Israeli entrepreneurs, “Globes” reports. In a meeting with a small group of entrepreneurs, Schmidt spoke as one of the founding members of venture capital firm Innovation Endeavors, stating that he believes Israeli entrepreneurs and CEOs should remain close to their home development centers. “You should exploit the talent here and if necessary, hire an American manager to run the US branch. The Israeli CEO should stay close to the development center, because that is the most important thing.”

    Mantis Vision Mobile 3D Company Raises $12.5M 

    mantisvisionJune 19, 2014 | The company responsible for bringing 3D technology to mobile devices, Mantis Vision raised $12.5 million from investors Qualcomm, Samsung, and Flextronics. The investment was made through Qualcomm’s venture capital firm, Flextronic’s hardware venture Lab IX, Chinese Sunny Optical Technology as well as Samsung. Mantis Vision hopes that the investment will help the company implement its breakthrough MV4D technology platform. Mantis Vision’s 3D technology is also being used by Google to develop the 3D sensing smartphone in Project Tango. Mantis Vision was founded in 2005 by Amihai Loven, Gur Arie Bittan and Eyal Gordon and has raised a reported $25 million in investments to date.

    Eric Schmidt To Arrive In Israel Today For Personal Visit 

    Google - News Flash - IsraelJune 17, 2014 | According to an exclusive report in “TheMarker,” Google CEO Eric Schmidt will arrive in Israel for a personal visit and is set to meet with a number of Israeli high-tech companies while he is here. Schmidt’s visit will be short, only a day and a half, and today (Tuesday) he will attend a closed meeting with senior members of Israel’s high-tech sector. Schmidt is an active investor in Israeli startups through the venture capital fund Innovation Endeavors, which is managed by Israeli partner Dror Berman. Just two years ago Schmidt visited Israel for the Presidential Conference, after which he wrote on his Google+ account, “Israel has become a center for high-tech.”

    Mantis Vision And SagivTech Supply Core Tech For Google’s Project Tango 

    projectango June 8, 2014 | Google has announced that Israeli startups Mantis Vision and SagivTech will supply core technologies for the development of Project Tango. The smartphone and tablet project is part of Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects group and looks to create a 3D model of each device’s surroundings by tracking its motion. The smartphone and tablet technology is set to be released this year and will combine Mantis Vision’s 3D engine, the MV4D, with SagivTech’s 3D video stitching technology as part of its core components.

    Founded in 2005, Mantis Vision is based in Petah Tikvah and seeks to develop technology that will make 2D to 3D conversion instantaneous. Just this year, Samsung and Flextronics invested $10 million in the company to develop a 3D television. SagivTech is a Raanana-based startup specializing in image and signal processing algorithm development with partners in the European Union.

    Official: Google Paid $966 Million For WazeSix weeks after closing the deal, internet giant Google has finally revealed the official sum it paid when acquiring Israeli social GPS startup Waze. In official documents filed by Google last Thursday, it was reported that the sum was lower than the previously estimated number of $1.03 billion.

    Mellanox To Receive $200M From Google And MicrosoftIsraeli InfiniBand developer Mellanox Technologies Ltd. will reportedly sell its equipment to two Internet server farm projects by Microsoft and Google. Globes reports that Mellanox’s estimated revenue from the two projects is $150-200 million, which it will begin to recognize from the second quarter of 2013.
