    Microsoft Acquires Another Israeli Cyber Company For $150M 

    MicrosoftOctober 22, 2015 | Microsoft has announced that it will acquire Israeli cyber security company Secure Islands for $100-150 million. The deal marks Microsoft’s fifth Israeli acquisition since the beginning of this year; three of the acquired companies develop cyber security technology. Founded in 2006 by brothers Aki and Yuval Eldar, Secure Islands is able to track an organization’s documents throughout the web.

    Microsoft Confirms Aorato Acquisition 

    aoratoNovember 16, 2014 | Microsoft confirmed reports that that it will purchase Israeli cyber security firm Aorato. While news outlets like the “Wall Street Journal” and others reported that the deal would be closed for $200 million, Microsoft did not reveal the financial details of the agreement. Speaking of the Aorato deal, Takeshi Numoto, Microsoft’s Vice President of Cloud and Enterprise Marketing, said, “We all know corporate security is more important than ever. Nearly every day there are more headlines about breaches, fraud and data loss. Unfortunately, compromised passwords, stolen identities and network intrusion are a fact of life. Companies need new, intelligent solutions to help them adapt and defend themselves inside the network, not just at its edge.” Aorato was founded in 2011 by CEO Idan Plotnik, Michael Dolinsky and Ohad Plotnik.

    Perion Extends Agreement With Bing.com For Additional Three Years 

    perionAugust 3, 2014 | Perion announced on August 1, 2014 (Friday) that it will extend its existing partnership with Bing for an additional three years. The agreement will extend from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2017. The agreement also includes desktop and tablet distribution with limited exclusivity to the United States as well as mobile distribution. “We are very excited to renew with Microsoft for another 3 years. We are committed to providing app developers with great solutions and working with Microsoft and Bing.com is an important part of that solution,” commented Ms. Danielle Ullner, Perion VP of Search Partnerships. In addition to companies like Bing and Google, Perion has search distribution partnerships with Ask.com and Yahoo. Founded in 2000, Perion is a global consumer software company based in Redmond, Washington and Tel Aviv, Israel.

    Microsoft Announces Windows App Contest For Israeli DevelopersJuly 31, 2014 | Microsoft, Akamai Technologies, and Jerusalem Venture Partners announced that they have entered into a partnership in order to establish a new accelerator for cyber security startups. One of the startups in the accelerator will be awarded $1 million at the end of the program. “Tech startups have the potential to shape the future of cybersecurity,” said Zack Weisfeld, head of Microsoft Ventures Europe. The program will be held at the Microsoft Ventures Accelerator in Tel Aviv where startups will be provided with free tools, advice and mentoring as well as access to a number of other resources. The partners hope that the accelerator will brew a level of expertise among the startups that will help make important breakthroughs in the cyber security sector.

    Cyber Security Startup Aorato Emerges from Stealth Mode And Announces $10M In FundingJuly 17, 2014 | According to a “Bloomberg” report, Microsoft is in talks to the Israeli cyber security company Aorato for $200 million. The talks are reportedly in an early stage as Aorato continues to negotiate sale with other companies as well. According to most sources, Aorato will be sold for approximately $200 million. Earlier this week, NoCamels reported that Aorato had identified a major security bug in Microsoft’s Active Directory, which would allow passwords and other sensitive information to be extracted and changed.

    Aorato Identifies ‘Highly Sensitive’ Security Flaw In Microsoft’s Active Directory 

    Cyber Security Startup Aorato Emerges from Stealth Mode And Announces $10M In FundingJuly 15, 2014 | Israeli cyber security firm Aorato announced the discovery of a critical design flaw in Microsoft’s Active Directory. The Microsoft software is widely used to provide network access, but the company asserts that the design flaw is known and that there are defenses in place to prevent identity fraud. Aorato discovered that passwords could potentially be changed by hackers due to bugs in Active Directory. “The dire consequences we are discussing–that an attacker can change the password–was definitely not known,” stated Tal Be’ery, Vice President of Research at Aorato. In addition, Aorato noted that about 95 percent of Fortune 500 companies use Active Directory making the problem “highly sensitive.” Aorato is an Israeli company specializing in Microsoft technologies with intimate knowledge of Active Directory from a cyber security perspective.

    Hexadite Cyber Security Startup Raises $2.5M In Seed Funding 

    hexadite July 2, 2014 | Israeli cyber security company Hexadite raised $2.5 million in seed funding in a round led by YL Ventures, with participation by Microsoft Corporate VP Moshe Lichtman. The startup only recently emerged to launch its groundbreaking new approach to cyber security incident response, using special investigative tools to cut down the time it takes to identify cyber security breaches by 95 percent. The Hexadite Automated Incident Response Solution (AIRS) is already being implemented by four global customers. Hexadite was founded by former military intelligence officers and cyber security experts Eran Barak, Idan Levin and Barak Klinghofer.
