    Microsoft Announces Windows App Contest For Israeli DevelopersJuly 31, 2014 | Microsoft, Akamai Technologies, and Jerusalem Venture Partners announced that they have entered into a partnership in order to establish a new accelerator for cyber security startups. One of the startups in the accelerator will be awarded $1 million at the end of the program. “Tech startups have the potential to shape the future of cybersecurity,” said Zack Weisfeld, head of Microsoft Ventures Europe. The program will be held at the Microsoft Ventures Accelerator in Tel Aviv where startups will be provided with free tools, advice and mentoring as well as access to a number of other resources. The partners hope that the accelerator will brew a level of expertise among the startups that will help make important breakthroughs in the cyber security sector.

    SuperSonic Software Raises $15M To Begin Asian Expansion 

    supersonicJuly 22, 2014 | SuperSonic Software announced the close of its second round of funding at $15 million. The top investor in this round is one of China’s largest venture capital firms, SAIF Partners, as well as Greylock, bringing total investment in the company to $23.2 million since the company was founded in 2009. SuperSonic’s main product is a cloud-based software development kit enabling mobile application developers to include advanced features like streaming interactive advertisements in their applications. As SuperSonic CEO and co-founder Gil Shoham told VentureBeat, “We have identified several interesting opportunities that … will significantly improve user acquisition effectiveness and ROI.”

    Gartner Acquires Q&A Platform Developer Senexx 

    senexx_logo_largeJuly 1, 2014 | The US IT research and consultant company Gartner acquired the Tel Aviv-based company Senexx. The financial details of the acquisition were not released. Gartner hopes to use Senexx’s questions and answers platform that identifies and manages expertise within companies to boost its web search capabilities, content recommendation engine and social platforms.  Gartner was founded in 1979 by Gideon Gartner and is based in Stamford, Connecticut. Senexx was founded in March 2011 and currently has a patent pending on its question and answer service.

    Driver Service Uber To Open Tel Aviv Office 

    uberJune 19, 2014 | The popular private driver service Uber has already rented out office space in Tel Aviv and is looking to hire a manager, “Calcalist” reported. The American company will reportedly rent office space in the SOSA compound in southern Tel Aviv. Uber is set to be a major competitor to the Israeli taxi-ordering application GetTaxi, founded by Shahar Waiser and Roi More in 2009, which now offers its services in New York City, Moscow, St. Petersburg and London.

    Bitcoin To Open First ATM In The Middle East In Tel Aviv 

    bitcoinJune 10, 2014 | According to reports, the peer-to-peer virtual currency bitcoin will be opening its first ATM in the Middle East in Tel Aviv, Israel tomorrow (Wednesday). The new ATM machines built by American company Robocoin will turn virtual bitcoins into cash, with a number of security features built-in to prevent fraud and theft. The bitcoin virtual currency system was created in 2009 by developer Satoshi Nakamoto and is controversial for removing traditional methods of monetary standardization that require all funds go through a central repository or administrator.
